Have a different question? Feel free to submit one below, and we will get back to you within 24 hours

Q. Is there any pre-treatment advice you can give for the few days before I have my treatments?

A. Yes! There are a few things you need to be aware of during the days prior to your treatments:

  1. Do not consume any alcohol 2 days before and after treatment as this may thin the blood and increase risk of bruising
  2. Avoid anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medication such as Aspirin/ Ibuprofen, Vitamin E, Gingo, Bilboa, Ginseng, St Johns Wort, Omega 3/ fish oils as these can also increase risk of bruising and swelling after injections
  3. Discontinue Retin- A 2 days before and after treatment
  4. Avoid having treatment within 2 weeks of a special event as it can take up to 2 weeks to see the full effects of the treatment and bruising may still be present within this time frame.
  5. Avoid treatment if you have a rash, cold sore or other lesions on or near the treatment area
  6. Do not have treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
  7. Ensure you tell your doctor about any medical history, medication or history of cold sores. Do not have treatment if you have any active infections or taking antibiotics.

Q. Is there any post-treatment advice you can give after I have had my treatment?

A. The post-treatment advice we give varies slightly between Botox and dermal filler treatments, as below.

Post treatment advice for Botox

  1. Avoid blood thinners as above to reduce risk of bruising and swelling
  2. Do not lie down for 4 hours after Botox to prevent the Botox from tracking into the muscles that cause drooping of the eyelids.
  3. It can take 4-7 days to start to see the effect of the treatment, we offer appointments after 2 weeks to see if additional Botox is required.
  4. You should wait around 4 hours before applying make up.
  5. Exercising your facial muscles by frowning and smiling helps the Botox spread around the muscles injected.
  6. Avoid strenuous activities; vigorous exercise/ heavy lifting 24 hours after treatment
  7. Avoid swimming for 24 hours after treatment.
  8. Avoid extreme heat such as Saunas, steam rooms or sunbathing for 72 hours after treatment
  9. Do not receive laser treatment, facials or microdermabrasion for 2 weeks following Botox injections
  10. Botox treatment are not immediately reversible but the effects will usually last 3-4 months and then expect full resolution to occur
  11. Notify your Doctor immediately if you notice any severe pain, rashes or drooping of the eyelid.

Post treatment advice for Dermal filler

  1. Dermal fillers are not permanent but expect them to last around 6-12 months. This will vary with different patients and type of filler used.
  2. Immediately after treatment, expect some mild swelling, redness and discomfort to the treated areas. This is normal and should resolve within a week.  Swelling with lip fillers can take longer to resolve and can sometimes seem uneven in this time. Final result will not be apparent until 2 weeks after treatment.
  3. If the symptoms persist, you experience severe pain or rashes, please contact your doctor for advice.
  4. Applying a cool compress for 15 minutes at a time can help to reduce swelling and bruising.
  5. Using Arnica cream can help with bruising
  6. Sleeping face up and slightly elevated can reduce swelling
  7. Avoid blood thinners as above to reduce risk of bruising and swelling
  8. Avoid touching or massaging the area treated for 6 hours (unless instructed). This can move the filler to different locations and risk introducing an infection. After this time, the area can be washed with soap and light make up applied.
  9. Avoid strenuous activity for 24 hours after treatment.
  10. Avoid going swimming for 24 hours after treatment.
  11. It is advisable to avoid flying for 48 hours after having fillers due to the risk of swelling.
  12. Avoid extreme heat such as Saunas, steam rooms or sunbathing for at least 72 hours after treatment
  13. Wait at least 2 weeks after injections before having any treatments such as laser, facials, microdermabrasion, electrolysis or semi permanent make up on treated areas.
